Job title: Design Intern
 Sparx Engineering

Course studied: Product Design Engineering
Year of graduation:

A brief outline of my role…

I polished the aesthetics and usability of Sparx’ engineering projects, and also created 3D renders and animations for clients.

Why I loved working here…

I was given a great deal of responsibility for the industrial design of each project I was involved in- and found my work very rewarding because of it.

My proudest achievement/experience in this role…

I am now signed-on as an overseas design consultant for Sparx Engineering, and have been offered a full-time role at the company after my graduation from Brunel. If you’d like me to be more specific, we built a giant robot that milks cows.

How I have developed professionally since beginning this role…

I have really improved my overall communication with clients – whether that’s through a face-to-face meeting, or by sending an annotated animation of a concept to a client.

My advice to students wanting to work in this industry/sector…

Be sure to consider looking abroad for design roles as well as locally in the UK. If you are competitive in the UK for design work (where we have excellent education and training for designers), you’ll be amazed how competitive you can be for design work in other countries.
