Job title: Marketing and Communications Intern
Type of position: Placement
Company: Asian Foundation for Philanthropy (AFP)
Degree: BSc Business and Management (Marketing)
Year of Graduation: 2015

Why I loved it:

“I worked within a small team and therefore had a lot of responsibility which allowed me to learn something new every day. Having the theoretical knowledge from my degree enabled me to effectively apply this to the practicality of the business.”

My best experience/greatest achievement:

“I independently organised and managed the British 10k Run 2014 event for our team.”

What I learned:

“The key elements of soft skills: communication, learning, teamwork and leadership. As well as the importance of marketing and selling via online and offline methods.”

About my experience/Tips for students:

“My main responsibilities included updating the company website and sub sites with regular articles, creating and designing issue based flyers, marketing and branding of the Social Enterprise and initially, to provide general administrative support to the team. I had to maintain and monitor our social media channels on a daily basis and lead the development of the Social Enterprise. From my time at AFP, I have learnt to always take your own initiative and not to be afraid of trying out new things. Overall, learn to take constructive feedback as this will ultimately grow you personally and professionally.”
