01 Aug Chief of Staff – Parichehr Zohrabi

Course studied: International Politics
Year of graduation: 2015

When I left Brunel, my plan was…
To find a graduate job related to my degree as I had worked extremely hard to be in the position I was.

At the moment…
I am currently working in the Home Office as Chief of Staff to Senior Civil Servant, managing 6 units. I initially joined the Home Office in October 2015, 3 months after graduating, working as an Asylum Decision Maker.

How my career goals have changed…
Soon after graduating I wanted to do my masters in human rights. However, once finding a career as significant as I did, I wanted to continue working in the Home Office making important decisions for some of most vulnerable people who have traveled across the world to find a safe country which will protect them.

I have always aspired to take a humanitarian career path, assisting and helping vulnerable people in war torn countries. Whilst I am working on the other side of what I wanted to do I am extremely pleased with my achievement and would like to progress to work in the UN.

How I have developed professionally since graduating…
I have gained amazing skills and confidence since joining the Home Office.

How I have developed personally…
I have become a much more empathetic and understanding person and gained so much experience and knowledge about the countries in the world through my work in Asylum Operations.

My advice to recent graduates/students graduating soon…
Never give up no matter how hard it gets. Continue your search for the jobs that will make you passionate and a better person. I mean something that is meaningful for you.
