25 Oct Studies can only take you so far – Luke Masters
Job title: Logistics Analyst
Company: BMW Group UK
Year of graduation: 2018
A brief outline of my role…
Data management and analysis support for the various sections of the BMW Logistics operations.
Why I loved working here…
- Fun, forward thinking company that will look great on my CV.
- Colleagues were always happy to help me with any issues, whole office was very friendly and it was a very nice atmosphere to spend 9-5 in every day.
- The atmosphere was also very relaxed – simple shirt and jeans most days meant you never felt like you had to impress anyone!
My proudest achievement or experience in this role…
Co-managing the £80M re-tender negotiations for the primary BMW Parts warehouse in Northampton. It wasn’t just a massive increase in workload but the figures and prices in play were much larger than anything I personally could have imagined being trusted with.
Have I developed professionally since working here?
Tremendously – from little things like time management and getting to grips with basic (but essential) programs like Outlook and Excel, to advancing my knowledge of business and economics from the inside. During my placement I realized that studies can only take you so far in preparing for full-time employment.
My advice to students wanting to work in this industry/sector…
Go into your interview ready to learn. Logistics is way more complicated than any one single person understands and it’ll show very obviously if you go into an interview pretending to understand it.
