Job title: Product Development – Teamsport
Company: Puma

Course studying: Sports Health and Exercise Science
Year of graduation: 2018

A brief outline of my role…
My role as product development intern included a variety of tasks across the BU. I was able to apply my academic experience of lab testing to our products, making sure standards were met and developed my abilities in a range of processes including fittings, pattern cutting, fabric r&d.

Why I loved working here…
This placement allowed me to apply my academic interest in Biomechanics to a practical purpose in fashion and sportswear, an area in which I have long held interest. My background in sport and strong proficiency in a lab based testing environment meant I went into the role with an existing aptitude for fabric and standard testing.

My proudest achievement or experience in this role…
I was lucky enough to be trusted as head developer for a number of African kits for the world cup in 2018. However my biggest impact will be felt in the fan replica jerseys for which the fabric I chose was approved and will be used across the whole Puma range for ss18.

How I have developed professionally since working here…
The professional work environment gave me invaluable experience and the opportunity to develop important attributes, including working to strict deadlines and strong communication.

My advice to students wanting to work in this industry/sector…
This is an industry where you have to have a passion for what you do. It is an environment of like minded people and your personality and interest is just as powerful as your academic experience.
