Start somewhere – Jaiseo Lee

25 Jul Start somewhere – Jaiseo Lee

Course studied: BEng Mechanical Engineering
Year of graduation: 2015

Since leaving Brunel, I have been…
Working

When I left Brunel…
My plan was to start somewhere and to see where it would get me to.

At the moment…
I have been on two Crossrail projects as a project engineer for a year with experienced engineers and a project team. Now I am an assistant project manager on a power upgrade project for London Underground.

How my career goals have changed…
I can see my capabilities and what input I can provide. Where opportunity is, that’s where I want to be.

How I have developed professionally since graduating…
I am on the path to be IMechE chartered and also looking into APM chartership with the possibility of doing a masters degree in the future. More than anything else, it is non-certifiable skills that are most valuable.

How I have developed personally since graduating…
The most important quality I am maintaining is perseverance. Correct prioritisation is a steep learning curve which never ends.

My advice to recent graduates/students graduating soon…
The more mature the whisky the better it tastes; look to the long game.
